I have asked and they have no idea which fish is this.

Interesting is that I found recipes with this fish in an old book of traditional swedish food for Christmas.

Prity because I'd like make 3 diferent dishes with this fish that is traditional in Brasil for Christmas.

Merry Christmas and Wonderful New Year to you and your family!!!

Kabeljo is dried and salted cod or ling. I have no idea where you can buy it though. What's traditional in Sweden is "lutfisk" which is also dried fish, cod or ling. This should be similar -but I don't know if I've ever found "dry" lutfisk in the stores - I haven't really looked. However, I think that's what you should look for - dry lutfisk.

Read more about lutfisk on [Wikipedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk").

You are absolutely right about what kabeljo is, Anne. This dried fish seems to have disappeared in Sweden with the arrival of refrigerators while it still is common in southern Europe- Portugal is already mentioned and baccala' is common in Northern Italy. Tore Wretman includes two recipes in his "Menu" from 1956 but already then he complains that it is disappearing. I believe that dried cod (before it is made into lutfisk) is still available in Norway- maybe somebody on this forum could enlighten us on this?

Not much help though, Deia. Good luck in your search!

Thank all for answering.

Lutfisk is made with the same fish but it's another process with a complete diferent result and taste.

It's interesting that Norway is the biggest exporter of kabelio in the world, followed by Portugal, this fish is so much popular in Brasil, which is so far away from Norway, and it's impossible to find it here... so prity...

But I could find another things to cook a traditional brazilian Christmas this last year. I even found Panetone, a very taste  bread with fruits from Italy, I found it in City Gross- Stockholm.

And I also found kastanja in Willys (to boil with the shell in water and salt for 30 min- like to boil potatos, peel and fry them in butter lightly/quickly to eat with baked turkey and pinapple, plooms, peaches, avokado, clementine or any other fruits you like).
